HERBS
Herbal medicine is an integral component of traditional
Chinese medicine (TCM). It is also one of the oldest
(and most popular) forms of healthcare. The term "herbal
medicine" refers to the use of a plant’s seed, berries,
roots, leaves, bark or flowers as well as animal and mineral
substances for medicinal purposes. While the scientific
study of herbs in the United States began just over two
centuries ago, herbs and botanicals have been used to
treat a wide range of health problems in Asia for thousands
of years.
Certain herbs contain natural energetic substances whose essence gently correct
underlying excesses or deficiencies of your body. After a thorough diagnosis of
your own body’s condition, a combination of herbs, called formula, is prepared to
help restore your individual internal balance. They are often prescribed in
combination with acupuncture treatment.
Investing in your food is the smartest investment of all.
FOOD
Chinese food therapy dates back as early as 2000
BC. Throughout Chinese history, healthcare was
not the responsibility of the state but rather the
responsibility of every ordinary citizen. People
used their own resources to find cures when they
became sick, which meant that most people could
not afford to be sick. Foods are classified by four
food groups (fruit & vegetables, meats & poultry,
dairy products, grains & beans & seeds), five tastes
(sweet, sour, bitter, salty, pungent) and by their
natures (hot, cold, warm, cool, neutral) and
characteristics (outward, inward, upward or
downward energetic movement). According to the
nature of the condition you are experiencing,
certain foods, because of their known quality, are
recommended to supplement your treatment.
